We are looking for Construction Managers, Assistant Construction Managers, Assistant Quantity Surveyors, Apprenticeship Construction Managers, Clerk of Works and administrators with expertise in new build construction (housing and education), capital works delivery (housing, education, built environment).

Assistant Project Manager (Education)

As part of the mission to accelerate regeneration in the borough, Be First is working with the Council to expand and build new schools to ensure every child has a good school place. This post will assist the Senior Project Managers within the Capital Works programme (Education). The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in delivering a range of education refurbishment and new build projects.


Main responsibilities:

  • Input into the development of the project programmes and assist in controling operations to achieve delivery of the projects.
  • Ensure effective cost control is in place throughout the programme, monitoring budgets and reporting any budgetary issues to the Senior Construction Manager.
  • Help organise the works and supply chain to provide the right working environment to avoid disruption between trades.
  • Monitor the performance of the supply chain ensuring the obligations of the contract are being adhered to at all times.
  • Identify discrepancies and take appropriate action.
  • Visit sites to undertake inspections of works and establish standards of quality on site.
  • Maintain the highest standards of health, safety and environmental management.
  • Manage the client expectations and adopt a professional and considerate approach to maintain good working relations.
  • Undertake the works in the most economic manner to eliminate waste and avoid non-recoverable costs and preliminaries losses.
  • Manage project handover and ensure defect / snag free completion.
  • Support the strategy for the closure of defects during defects period and obtain certificate of Making Good Defects within targets set.
  • Understand the Performance Targets and, ensure that compliance with appropriate measurement processes are in place. 

Requirements:

  • HNC/ONC (or equivalent) in Building City & Guilds
  • Experience of delivering large scale capital works projects within education sector
  • Experience of managing budgets and cost control
  • Experience of writing progress reports
