TECHNICAL OFFICER - RESIDENTIAL TEAM INCLUDING PRIVATE SECTOR HOUSING & STATUTORY NUISANCE ENFORCEMENT

We have two opportunities for 1x permanent and 1x temporary Technical Officers (TO’s) to join the Residential Team undertaking a range of duties from basic investigations / inspections to the most complex cases in relation to the assigned work around private sector housing including environmental protection relating to private dwellings in accordance with legislation and service policy. This will include the removal of hazards arising from- repair, amenity, overcrowding, fire safety, and energy related matters as well as dealing with harassment and the threat of illegal eviction.
Perhaps you are considering a side-ways move to specialise in a really interesting and important area of work including assisting to meet the challenge regarding delivery of the implementation of extension of mandatory licensing relating to houses in multiple occupation (HMO’s) – could this be your next step?
Duties will involve the inspection of premises, the investigation of complaints and the licensing of houses and flats in multiple occupation. In this job role you will actively contribute to the public Health agenda.
As a Technical Officer you will join us with at least a relevant basic technical qualification such as the ABBE Certificate in diagnosing defects and ordering repairs or equivalent in surveying, building inspection or another related field and in terms of a desirable technical qualification we are looking for a certificate of competency under HHSRS. We will welcome applications from newly qualified Environmental Health Officers
These are public facing roles and you will have the ability to communicate well at all levels and will be able to present facts and negotiate in a balanced manner.
