Now is an exciting time to be in Basildon, with huge investment taking place in both our town centres and housing estates. We’ve developed and implemented a market leading strategic asset management contract that has won awards and received national recognition. This coupled with an ambitious HRA house build programme means Basildon Council is well positioned for the future.

We are looking for a highly experienced and tenacious individual to fill this newly created position, which will require you to lead, direct and effectively manage a high performing, customer focused and cost-effective strategic property function to secure outcomes that help to deliver the Council’s objectives and maximise value. It will also be part of the role to manage the strategic asset management function of Brentwood Borough Council through the shared service agreement between the two parties.

As Strategic Property Manager, you will act as the professional property advisor for the Council, having oversight of all property related matters ensuring all responsibilities, including legal, are met. You will be required to ensure systems are in place to support the management of land and property as a key resource and capture, record, update and manage all information underpinning property-related activities.

Able to constructively challenge the status-quo planning strategies and programmes for the Council’s capital assets and resources, you will balance service needs with the requirement to realise receipts, innovate and transform service delivery. You will also be responsible for the preparation and sign-off of the Council’s Asset Management Plan ensuring that strategic discussions take place within and between each department and amongst elected members supporting and providing innovative ideas and partnership working.

The successful applicant will be able to find deliverable and innovative solutions that focus the capital and property programmes, turning them into realistic and achievable outcomes. They will have significant experience at a senior level of leading and managing professional, technical and support staff in relation to property investment, management and compliance with statutory duties. They will be RICS qualified and adept at delivering and managing property and related services including asset strategies and policies.
