Chesterfield is not your typical market town…

We are hoping there is something truly special about you too.

Chesterfield is a council that prides itself on ‘putting its communities first’, delivering inclusive growth and great facilities and services. On the doorstep of the Peak District National Park, the town and borough are experiencing a modern reawakening with successful regeneration projects completed and a further £1 billion of investment and development underway.

The Assistant Director – Housing will provide strategic leadership and management to the housing service at a time when the council is looking to build new homes and re-provision its older persons accommodation while continuing to deliver quality landlord services to its 9,000 plus tenants. You will have strategic oversight and responsibility for a range of housing services including client management of the repairs service and the planned maintenance and capital works programmes; HRA business planning; delivery of tenant and neighbourhood services; housing allocations; supported housing; homelessness services; and Careline services. We will expect you to be passionate in your engagement with staff and tenants, creative and innovative in your thinking and actions and focussed on continuous improvement.

As a member of our corporate management team, you’ll also have the chance to develop your knowledge and experience through your full involvement in other corporate projects and programmes. You will help shape the Council’s future and make your own.

To thrive in this role, you will have worked in a senior management role within the housing sector. You will have a strong strategic grasp and be able to operate effectively within a supportive political environment. You will also need to demonstrate a solid track record of driving quality service improvements and building productive partnerships. Your leadership will be pivotal in helping us deliver a first-class housing service to our tenants.
