In order to deliver the increased volume and complexity of work as a result of the Guinness 2023 Strategy, we are growing our Finance Group to ensure we have the right capacity in reporting tax, financial control and financial planning and consequently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Financial Accountant- Control to join our team in London.

About the role

Reporting into the Head of Financial Accounting and Control, the purpose of this role is to ensure that a sound financial accounting and control environment exists which supports the delivery of compliant financial accounting and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain an effective and robust financial control environment with particular focus on the balance sheet; leading on continuous improvement of financial controls. 
• Ensure financial controls are in place and operating effectively to mitigate risks to the balance sheet. 
• Ensure timely completion of all balance sheet reconciliations and intercompany reconciliations; taking functional responsibility for the Balance Sheet Reconciliations Team. 
• Completion and timely production of key areas of consolidated balance sheet reporting for Guinness 
• Support the year end consolidation process with focus on the balance sheet to ensure the timely production of consolidated Financial Statements; liaising with External Audit as required. 
• Ensure Internal and External Audit recommendations relating to financial accounting and control are implemented promptly. 
• Maintain up to date knowledge of accounting standards and regulations; ensuring any changes to accounting policies are implemented and applied correctly and on time. 
• Undertake ad hoc financial analysis/forecasting to support the business in effective and informed decision-making.

Skills/Experience

Essential:
 
• Proven experience of leading on financial accounting for complex balance sheet areas, including dealing with audit and producing technical reports for Boards/Committees as appropriate. 
• Experience of preparing consolidated Financial Statements with a particular focus on the balance sheet, including audit liaison and application of accounting standards. 
• Proven experience in ensuring delivery of timely balance sheet reconciliation.
• Experience of financial control in a large or complex organisation.
• Proven experience of leading a finance team of function through improvement activity.
• Good attention to detail with ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload to meet agreed deadlines.
• Experience of using Oracle Financials or equivalent. 
• Experience of reviewing and analysing financial information and reporting on results. 
• Proven customer service experience.
• Excellent oral and written communications.
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Demonstrates the Guinness Behaviours.
• Demonstrates the Guinness Leadership and Management Standard.

Desirable:

• Good knowledge of current financial reporting standards and their  application within the Social Housing Sector
• Experience of working in external or internal audit.

Qualifications

CCAB or CIMA qualified.
