Are you tired of routine housing development, and instead want to use your development skills, passion and knowledge to create innovative solutions to the pressing housing needs of young people?  Then this might be the opportunity you are looking for.

YMCA Birmingham is a Christian charity providing a range of life-changing services for the local community. With a turnover approaching £5m, we house over 300 young people, most of whom previously were homeless, and support them to get their lives back on track. We also run children’s nurseries and operate various social enterprises to create employment and generate income for our charitable work.

We are striving to double our housing provision for young people to 600 units in the next few years to help meet growing need and are actively developing new models of accommodation that better meet the real housing needs of young people in the 21st Century. As well as seeking to develop smaller brownfield sites, we are also building exciting partnerships with likeminded organisations, particularly churches and Christian charities, that will enable us both to increase our housing provision and to better serve the wider community through creative synergy.

In addition, we are supporting other YMCAs in the broader Midlands area which do not have their own in-house development expertise, to enable them to deliver more homes for young people in their respective areas of operation.

The successful candidate will assist our Assistant Chief Executive to deliver our housing development objectives and that of partner YMCAs. You will have an excellent understanding of the development process and construction in general and be confident and competent to work effectively with a low level of supervision within an agreed strategic framework.

Managing a range of consultants, you will be involved in every stage of development from site appraisal and acquisition, through design, planning and execution of £2-6m development projects. You will be able to think and act strategically, whilst also having a good eye for detail, sound financial analytical skills, and the ability to present complex development matters clearly and concisely to a range of audiences.

Equally importantly, you will wholeheartedly embrace and work within the Christian ethos and values of YMCA Birmingham and be able to embody them in the way you relate to a wide range of stakeholders. In particular, you will have the understanding and sensitivity to communicate effectively with, and work in partnership with, faith-based organisations and churches on joint development projects.

YMCA Birmingham is an independent Christian charity, a registered provider of social housing, and affiliated to the national and international YMCA Movement.

If you think this might be the right role for you, then we want to hear from you.  Visit http://ymcabirmingham.org.uk/about-us/work-with-us/  for more details. Please note that an application form must be completed by all applicants – CVs will not be considered for shortlisting.

The closing date for receipt of completed application forms is 9.00am on Monday 29th April 2019. Interviews will take place on Monday 13th May 2019.

As an organisation fully committed to the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, a thorough vetting process is carried out as part of the appointment process, including verification of any required qualifications, verification of identity, taking of references and a DBS check as appropriate.
