£63,968 per annum + excellent benefits

36.5per week

Contract type: The role is for an initial 3 year period with the potential for extension subject to funding

We now have an outstanding opportunity for forward-thinking, creative individual to lead in the provision of high level quality advice and policy solutions to senior decision makers, as well as ensuring strategic links and awareness of our housing and regeneration priorities across the West Midlands, relevant central government departments, MPs, special advisers, Local Enterprise Partnerships, and other key stakeholders including the private sector.

About us

The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) is a strategic authority working with partners to deliver a stronger West Midlands, with a focus on skills, innovation, transport, economic development and regeneration.  Individual Councils and Local Enterprise Partnerships will still deliver services and retain their identity but on the big decisions we will have the resources to work together.

This is an exciting time for the West Midlands - the Commonwealth Games will be here in 2022, the arrival of HS2 will help make us a world class business location and a new £350m housing deal aims to deliver 215,000 new homes by 2031.

Against a backdrop of a uniquely challenging and evolving environment, we are looking for the right people to ensure we can meet the demands of delivering an ambitious agenda that aims to build a healthier, happier, better connected and more prosperous West Midlands.  All our roles will have an impact on the whole of our region.

To succeed …

As our new Head of Policy, you will set the policy direction for the WMCA in relation to all housing and regeneration matters.  You will be an innovative thinker with the ability to lead from the front and have a delivery-focused approach to the development of planning, housing and regeneration policy in the region. 

Above all you will have a track-record of relevant policy research, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, an understanding of political processes at local, regional and national levels, and excellent team leadership. This is a key leadership role in which you will have the opportunity to leverage your breadth of experience together with your proven strategic and leadership background, and take your policy career to the next level.
