Temporary Accommodation Officer (Private Lease Scheme & Hostels)
Candidates must be able to work outside of normal hours to provide out of hours emergency cover to the Council’s 4 Hostels (provided on a four weekly rota including one weekend every fourth week). Overtime is applicable for work outside of core hours within this role.
About the role
This is a varied and busy team leader role managing the Council’s well established ‘Temporary Accommodation Management Team’ with 6 Officers providing a full management service to private landlords via the Council’s Private Sector Leasing (PSL) scheme (approx 450 properties) and managing the Council’s four hostels, both of which provide temporary accommodation to homeless households.
In this challenging and rewarding role, you will be responsible for all aspects of day to day service and performance management including void turnaround and will take the lead in building and maintaining relationships with private sector landlords/agents to sustain existing lettings and help develop new private sector opportunities to meet growing demand.
As part of the Council’s Community you will drive our commitment to excellent customer service and work collaboratively with colleagues to support tenancy sustainment, helping to meet a wide range of housing needs and fulfil the Council’s statutory duties under homelessness legislation.

Your leadership and motivation will be vital for the team in managing and retaining a diverse portfolio of privately leased properties in a competitive private sector market to help meet increasing demand. You will offer the team support across a range of functions including assessing property conditions, monitoring contractor relationships and providing advice and support to tenants to help sustain tenancies.
You’ll have excellent communication and negotiation skills, effective time management, work well under pressure and demonstrate a good working knowledge of relevant housing health & safety legislation, tenancy management, homelessness legislation and welfare reform. Most importantly you will be passionate about customer service and delivering services that make a positive difference.
