This is a one year secondment opportunity or fixed term contract.  

The Local Government Association (LGA) is looking to recruit a dynamic and experienced environmental health manager to work in the Joint Inspection Team (JIT). 

This new national team is being established by the LGA and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, with the help of the National Fire Chiefs Council, to support local authorities and give them confidence to pursue enforcement action against building owners of residential high-rise buildings with unsafe aluminium composite material (ACM) cladding. 

You will assist and advise local authorities in using the Housing Act 2004 to assess the hazard risk of unsafe cladding in high-rise residential buildings and take enforcement action against building owners who are slow to remediate HHSRS assessments and enforcement. 

You will lead a team of three Environmental Health Officers within the multi-disciplinary JIT, and support the JIT Team Leader. You will have a strong record of using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System to take enforcement action; the confidence and drive to shape and lead a team of environmental health officers in potentially difficult situations; and to be able to deputise on occasion for the JIT Team Leader. Experience of dealing with ACM cladding will be an advantage.
