Salary

The role

As Director of New Homes you will be responsible for the programme to deliver 11,000 new homes by 2043, as part of the Council’s Fairer Future promises to meet the needs of many overcrowded and homeless residents in the borough. You will ensure an effective resources, communications and engagement strategy is in place and drive through large and complex programmes: from the identification of new sites through to completion.

We are on a journey to regenerate the borough: your knowledge and appreciation of how good design can bring wider benefits to neighbourhoods will be integral to our ‘great estates’ plan. Your strong contract management experience, procurement skills and innovative thinking will be key as you range of external stakeholders and leverage the linkages and influence a social landlord the size of Southwark maintains. Your relationship and leadership skills will grow as you build capacity and capability within the Council and your commercial acumen will help as you take the lead in establishing the council’s construction company.

We have a pipeline for the first tranche of 2,000 homes to be delivered by 2022. We are well resourced and highly motivated. We require someone who has extensive experience of delivering a large housing capital programme, whether in a local government setting or otherwise. You will however be credible with our residents and passionate about delivering upon our commitments to them.

We’re fortunate to have some of the best people working right at the top of their game here in Southwark and this is a key moment for the right person to join us.

Additional salary details

Southwark is a place with a rich and proud history, a strong sense of community and an ability to transform and renew. Home to renowned destinations such as Shakespeare’s Globe, the Shard and the Tate Modern, Southwark is also a place full of energy where regeneration and development abound. However, many of our residents struggle with low income, poor housing and a lack of affordable alternatives to a council home, for which we have a waiting list of around 10,000 households.
