About the role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen in our Young Carers team who support unpaid carers aged 5-25 years within North Somerset.

As a Young Carers Coordinator, you will be planning, delivering and leading on a programme of support for our ‘Seniors’ (12-16 year old young carers). This will be structured around our three service aims of raising aspiration, improving psychological well-being and improving self-esteem.

A large part of your role will be to identify, promote and encourage participation in and take responsibility for the planning, organising and implementation of activities, trips and residentials for young carers in school holidays. The role also includes running therapeutic groups on a weekly basis during term time, so you will need to be able to work one evening per week (occasionally two) during term time.

You will also be needs assessing young carers and their families in their own homes, using a Think Family approach and working in partnership with other agencies. There is also an element of monitoring and evaluation within this role, you will be producing reports as required on work undertaken. You will be innovative with how you engage with this cohort of young people and embrace technology.

You will also be raising awareness of Young Carers’ needs through multi- agency meetings, events and presentations. This is a real chance to Make the Difference!

About you:

The successful candidate will have great communication and organisational skills and be able to work sensitively in an open and honest manner. The ability to manage your time efficiently whilst ensuring electronic and paper-based case records are accurate and kept up to date is essential.

You will ideally be able to work Tuesdays and Wednesdays with some Tuesday and Wednesday Evenings to run groups during school term-time. Flexibility is an absolute must, as a programme of activities is offered for our Young Carers including residentials and theatre trips, for example, within the half terms and holidays.  You will need to be available on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of May in addition to the 28th, 29th and 30th of June to take part in our farm and festival weekends.

If you feel that you wish to discuss this element of the role, or any part of what the job entails, please do not hesitate to contact our Young Carer & Young Adult Carer Team Leader, Fern Smith, on 07776170268 or fern.smith@allianceliving.org.uk.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check and the ability to travel across the North Somerset area.
