The Heart of a Town Lies in its People” and at Stevenage Borough Council our people are at the heart of what we do.

As a Supported Housing Officer you will be working in our extra care/independent living housing schemes supporting residents to maintain their independence for as long as possible.

You will have day to day management of the scheme you are working in and carry out housing management duties including health and safety checks, fire checks, raising communal repair works. You will be liaising with agencies/families/other SBC departments to support residents to maintain their independence.  You will be working with a diverse group of people which includes those with complex needs both within the schemes and outside in the community.

You will have an understanding of older and/or vulnerable people and their needs, demonstrating a high level of sensitivity. Experience of extra care would be beneficial. You will assess applicants for suitability to move into our schemes and on an ongoing basis to identify support needs.

Excellent record keeping skills, a working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and computer skills is essential. You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work on your own initiative with minimum supervision.

You need to be flexible as you will be required to respond to emergency calls to residents in our independent living/extra care schemes and on our careline service in the community.  It is essential that you have use of a vehicle which has business insurance cover in order for you to be able to carry out your duties. A mileage allowance will be payable.
