In order to deliver the increased volume and complexity of work as a result of the Guinness 2023 Strategy, we are growing our Finance Group to ensure we have the right capacity in reporting tax, financial control and financial planning and consequently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Financial Accountant-Fixed Assets to join our team in Oldham, Greater Manchester.

Overview of the role

Reporting into the Head of Financial Accounting and Control, this role is responsible for the delivery of accurate, transparent and compliant fixed assets accounting at Guinness, with a focus on housing property and fixed asset balance sheet reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of fixed asset accounting for TGPL and relevant subsidiaries, ensuring the fixed asset registers are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Produce full monthly fixed asset analysis with commentary and analysis of movements.
  • Ensure the correct accounting treatment is applied to grants received for the development of housing properties. Report on the track grant for internal purposes and for the Regulator as required.
  • Support monthly and year end process by ensuring that all fixed asset and grant-related reports are accurate and produced in a timely fashion; liaising with External Auditors as required.
  • Ensure internal and external audit recommendations relating to fixed assets are reviewed and implemented.
  • Take functional responsibility for the fixed asset work streams and output as part of the overall balance sheet reconciliations process.
  • Undertake ad hoc financial analysis/forecasting to support the business in effective and informed decision-making.

Skills/Experience

Essential:

  • Proven experience of leading fixed asset accounting in a complex business, including liaising with external audit and producing technical reports for management as appropriate.
  • Experience of preparing fixed asset and grant information for consolidated Financial Statements including audit liaison and application of accounting standards.
  • Proven experience of managing a team or function.
  • Experience of explaining complex principles and processes to non-finance staff.
  • Good attention to detail with ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload to meet agreed deadlines.
  • Experience of using Oracle Financials or equivalent.
  • Proven customer service experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communications.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrates the Guinness Behaviours.
  • Demonstrates the Guinness Leadership and Management Standard.

Desirable:

  • Good knowledge of current financial reporting standards and their application within the Social Housing Sector.
  • Experience of working in an external or internal audit capacity.
  • Experience of accounting in the Social Housing Sector

Qualifications

  • CCAB or CIMA Qualified
