Business Development Manager

Responsible to:

Director of Client Strategy & Delivery

Key contacts:

Local authorities: senior commissioners responsible for housing and social care.

External funding bodies: health, criminal justice and other statutory commissioners, fund managers.

Regulators: Regulator of Social Housing; Charity Commission; Care Quality Commission

Others: partners, potential partners, competitors.

Internal: Business Development Team, other colleagues, clients

Main purpose:

To work closely with the Director of Client Strategy & Delivery, to lead the development and delivery of high quality new business opportunities in a range of settings within a defined geographical area. As part of this to:

  • Support the new business growth plans of Transform, proactively looking for opportunities to expand areas of operation and to meet strategic objectives.
  • Lead on the entire process and all aspects of a range of tender/bid work.  Prepare PQQs, and ITTs (written text and costing/pricing models and Executive reports).
  • Alongside the Director of Client Strategy & Delivery, represent Transform externally at a regional and local level, with internal and external stakeholders, to build relationships; and design and develop services and products which are responsive, relevant and competitive and in line with best practice.
  • Have commercial expertise and business acumen to identify new opportunities, win new contracts and market Transform’s services.
  • Lead by example, working with the Business Development Team and operational colleagues in creating a professional business environment for growth.
  • Work closely with operational teams to help deliver and embed new services; reviewing adherence to contractual and financial parameters agreed with commissioners. On occasion, support the re-modelling of services and implementation of new practice models, ensuring Transform’s service offers are compatible with contemporary practice.
  • To contribute to the overall strategy and development of Transform, at all times working to promote the values of Transform.

 

Key Tasks

To be responsible for the following key tasks:

Support the new business growth plans of Transform.

  1. Support the Director of Client Strategy & Delivery to ensure the growth plan is fully aligned with the Transform overall purpose and strategy.
  2. In conjunction with other members of the management team, to contribute to the formulation of plans, setting growth targets and contributing to achieving corporate targets and objectives.
  3. Pro-actively explore opportunities for growth and business development
  4. Work in partnership with operational colleagues on the delivery of annual growth targets.
  5. Prepare business models and business development processes in accordance with Transform procedures.
  6. Prepare and present high quality investment reports to the Executive as required.

Lead on the entire process and all aspects of tender/bid work.  Prepare PQQs, and ITTs (written text and costing/pricing models and executive reports).

  1. Work with the Director of Client Strategy & Delivery to identify new business opportunities, preparing written bids for new tenders, preparing reports and delivering presentations to external stakeholders as appropriate. Alert Transform’s Fundraising Team to potential opportunities to ensure that fundraising efforts are aligned. Evaluate and improve writing quality in terms of content, outcomes, specialist knowledge and case studies. Provide business development leadership ensuring that all bids and tenders are prepared, written and submitted to a high quality standard in accordance with growth targets. Prepare and submit all aspects of written tenders to an excellent quality in accordance with the Transform’s strategic objectives.

Represent Transform externally at a regional and local level, with internal and external stakeholders, to design and develop services and products which are responsive, relevant and competitive, and in line with best practice.

  1. Research and evaluate markets and competition and adjust business models in accordance with contemporary practice with operational colleagues.
  2. Where appropriate, support the re-modelling of services and implementation of new practice models, ensuring Transform’s service offers are compatible with contemporary practice.
  3. Work with the Director of Client Strategy & Delivery, managers, teams and customers to design and deliver modern and innovative services in line with best practice.
  4. Develop and motivate senior/local managers to consistently thrive for excellence in customer service delivery.

Have commercial expertise and business acumen to identify new opportunities, win new contracts and market Transform’s services.

  1. Consistently look for new and innovative ways of securing future contracts, including working with potentially new customer groups and with different partners to develop new products and services models.
  2. Provide effective business development project management to ensure competitive costing and pricing business models.

 

Lead by example, working with the Business Development Team and operational colleagues in creating a professional business environment for growth.

  1. Providing direction, support and line management responsibilities to the Executive & Research Officer. Providing support within the Business Development Team and wider directorate to ensure the smooth operation and continuous improvement of the service. Support operational colleagues to embed new services and to ensure that appropriate review mechanisms are in place for contractual compliance.
