As an Occupational Therapist you will be responsible for carrying out individual clinical assessments to determine the need for any adaptations which are necessary and appropriate to meet the needs of the disabled customer. You will also need to develop design briefs for adaptations, liaising as necessary with the HIA`s Adaptations Surveyors, contractors, regulatory authorities and the local authority. You will need to carry out post work inspections ensuring that all adaptations have been completed satisfactorily and meet the client`s needs, that any necessary risk assessments have been carried out and that clients have been appropriately advised about the safe use of any equipment.
As you will be responsible for your own workload experience is essential. You will require a degree or post graduate diploma in Occupational Therapy together with current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.
In addition you will have comprehensive knowledge of health and safety issues relating to the support of disabled people and the safe undertaking of works in a domestic environment, including an understanding of Part M of the Building Regulations gained from extensive practical working experience.
