There is an exciting opportunity to work for a leading public sector local authority as a Health and Safety Compliance Coordinator. You will play a key role in coordinating service improvement through the transition and continuous improvement programmes and involving staff in the process, ensuring that you are constantly challenging and devising new and improved ways to keep Health and Safety across the Operations department compliant.

You will be responsible to the Head of Strategic Asset Management and Compliance Data, providing audit information on Health and Safety matters by researching and analysing data received and reporting on compliance to ensure that strategies and policies are cross cutting and integrated across Property Operations. You will provide strategic input on health and safety at departmental level. Ensuring that Property Operations effectively influences, and is represented to, appropriate external agencies including Health and Safety Executive.

  • Prepares compliance audit data by compiling and analysing internal and external information
  • Supports departments by collecting and coordinating internal H&S compliance data with auditors and various departments
  • Provides administrative support by implementing systems, procedures, and policies; completing projects in support of H&S compliance auditors
  • Helps others by answering questions and responding to requests
  • Complies with legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications
  • Coordinate a wide range of decisions that develops the Property Services and Compliance Health & Safety management system with effective and innovative health and safety policies and procedures that ensure that the wider aims and objectives of the Council are supported
  • To coordinate senior management, corporate safety, and departmental health & and safety professionals to enable Operations to meet the organisational and personal health and safety legal obligations and responsibilities
  • To coordinate the health and safety standards of Operational Services and Compliance Division to a point where they are regarded as setting best practice by similar organisations
  • To coordinate and manage policy officer(s) to effectively deliver specific programmes, portfolios, projects, and functions determined by the departmental health, safety, and compliance objectives
  • To foresee requirements for developments in best health and safety and compliance practices coordinate them to the changing service delivery mechanisms of the Council, or in response to legal and legislative influences
  • To be responsible for the successful coordination and implementation of health and safety and Compliance policies, strategy, practices, systems, performance standards and targets across the Operations
  • To provide advice on good practice and introduce new systems and procedures where necessary. To monitor and ensure the effective use of these across the Property Services and Compliance Division
  • Evaluate, appraise, and review health and safety policies, strategy, practices, systems, performance standards and targets generally and specific initiatives undertaken. Review effectiveness of the whole health and safety management system across the Property Services and Compliance Division
  • The post holder will be required to have input into Council wide strategies not only within his/her area of responsibility but also representing Operations as a department. It is therefore essential that the post holder gains a wide understanding of the Council Group function and can use this knowledge at appropriate times on his/her own initiative
  • The post holder will be required to coordinate corporate compliance projects within his/her own area of responsibility
  • Coordinate all areas of health and safety and compliance with Trade Union representatives and other staff groups
  • Coordinate the departments dealings with the Health & Safety Executive, London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority, and other enforcing bodies
  • Coordinate Property Operations health and safety teams and plan the service to meet immediate and future demands
  • Make a positive contribution to the Councils corporate resources directorate vision
  • To coordinate the efficient and effective delivery of the H&S service to the agreed KPIs, together with the associated performance reporting
  • Contribute to the future strategy for the service following the completion of the initial service improvement programme
