Health Safety and Environmental Officer
Charnwood Borough sits within the three cities of Leicester, Nottingham and Derby. One third of the 167,000 population live in the thriving university town of Loughborough, with most of the remaining two thirds within the small towns and villages of the Wolds, the Soar and Wreake Valleys, Charnwood Forest and on the edge of Leicester.
We are looking for a talented Health Safety and Environmental Officer to join our Landlord Service. You will be ambitious and self-motivated and able to work on your own, as well as part of a team.
Reporting to the Health Safety and Environmental Manager, you will work proactively with managers, staff and other stakeholders to establish and maintain safe systems of work and a safe environment for employees, contractors, the Council’s tenants and the public.
With a firm grasp of health and safety and environmental legislation and practice, you will be creative, with the ability to clearly communicate solutions to a broad stakeholder base and build a proactive culture around compliance. It is expected that you will achieve this by delivering training, undertaking audit inspections and support visits of all operational sites. You will assist site management in the delivery of toolbox talks, support the reporting of near miss incidents, and provide general support to managers. You will take ownership of set targets and produce performance information, whilst also delivering practical improvements.
You will support the Health, Safety and Environmental Manager to develop policies and procedures, and support practical implementation of best practice on the ground.
Charnwood Borough Council has a housing stock of over 5700 properties and has 130 employees in the Landlord Service delivering a range of services from dealing with anti-social behaviour through to property repairs and improvements and delivering services to older people.
