The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham is at a key moment in the borough’s history. We have a long and proud record of providing public services for the local community.

Barking and Dagenham is experiencing huge challenges but also significant opportunities to grow. London’s economy is moving east and we have space for 60,000 new homes. Our mission is to help seize those prospects for the benefit of everyone.

As part of this growth Barking and Dagenham Homes Limited will be a new provider of social and affordable housing in the Borough, working alongside the Council’s existing housing company, Reside.

Barking & Dagenham Homes Ltd is in the process of being registered with the Regulator for Social Housing and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham (LBBD). It is expected to take on ownership of its first 41 affordable rented homes later this financial year with many more to follow. We are looking for two independent Board Members to join our Board of five.

This may be your first Board role, but you will understand good governance and the role of non-executive Directors and work at a senior level within the affordable housing sector. Although Barking and Dagenham Homes is a slightly different housing association, we are looking for candidates who have strong housing experience, particularly around regulatory requirements, finance and asset management backgrounds.

Diversity of thought is especially important around our Board table, given who we are and the communities we work with. We will value your input, challenge and perspective.

Applicants need to have a passion for our social purpose.

The role is unpaid, although reasonable expenses, including mileage / train fares and childcare, will be reimbursed and regular training opportunities will be offered throughout the year with a time commitment of up to six meetings a year.
