Head of Housing Development

Lay the foundations for 1,000+ homes – and an exciting future

As our community grows, our borough is growing with it. Wandsworth Council are building at least 1,000 homes, right across Borough on its own land and wants to do more itself and encourage other landowners to bring development forward. We need an ambitious Head of Housing Development to take up the challenge and make extensive development happen. Step up to a brand new role that comes with support at the highest level.

Working for Richmond & Wandsworth Shared Services (but focusing only on Wandsworth), you’ll report to the Assistant Director of Strategy and Development. Your main task is to direct, oversee and manage the development of at least 1,000 homes on Council land across 40 different sites. The portfolio is varied to meet local needs. You will have the help of a dedicated and cohesive team which you will be able to shape and develop. A proactive leader, you’ll oversee planning, procurement of contractors, work with builders and develop business cases to assess development potential. Where necessary, you’ll engage with local communities and partner developers too. You will also have the chance to champion and build links with other landowners to encourage and enable development that delivers on the Borough’s commitment to provide “Housing for All”.

You’ll be a committed individual looking to take the next step in your career with proven housing development experience, having worked with Councils, Housing Associations or the Commercial Sector. With this background, you’ll know how to take homes from feasibility to completion stage, with the help of your excellent project management skills. A natural communicator who enjoys collaboration, you’ll be ready to follow a path to more senior leadership roles.
