Job Title: Health & Safety Advisor

Type of Contract: Permanent

Hours: 36 hours week, full time

Salary: £44,741 (Plus 1,800 car allowance)

Job Profile:

To support and assist the Health & Safety Manager (HSM), and the Head of Health & Safety (HHS) in all aspects of Health and Safety (H & S) compliance across Optivo.

To assist in establishing, managing and monitoring the H & S Management System and the continual improvement of H & S across the organisation.

To be the day-to-day support for managers and staff across Optivo ensuring policies & procedures are consistently applied in line with the principles of sensible risk management.

To promote a culture where managing and being accountable for risk is recognised as an essential part of business as usual.

Knowledge:

Essential

A Levels, or equivalent experience

Professional qualification in Health and Safety (minimum NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent)

A minimum of two years’ experience working as a H & S Advisor or equivalent

Excellent up to date knowledge of H & S legislation, guidance and best practice

Strong communication skills, both oral and written

The ability to work effectively with staff throughout the organisation regardless of seniority or background

Nb1. Travel between sites will be a requirement for this role

Nb2. There may be a requirement to attend meetings and other activities outside normal working hours

Desirable

NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent

Member of a relevant professional body (e.g. IOSH)

Additional related professional qualifications (e.g. noise, fire, asbestos, etc.)

Experience of working in a social housing or local government role

Training experience

Abilities/ Skills

Personal drive and enthusiasm to promote a positive safety culture within Optivo and its partners

Ability to influence and engage staff at all levels and to present complex information in an accessible way

Experience of formulating, implementing and revising H&S policies and procedures

Pro-active team player with confidence to work on own initiative

Ability to work in, and adapt to a rapidly changing environment

Valid UK driving licence

Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills

Proven investigative and analytical ability

Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills

Strong IT skills

Strong influencing skills of identifying sensible and practical risk reduction measures

Relationships

Work closely with the HSM and H & S Team Members to deliver an effective H & S management system.

Build strong working relationships with key managers and staff from across Optivo, and our partners, including:

  • The Fire Safety Team
  • Property & Asset Management
  • Facilities Management
  • People Team
  • Learning & Organisational Development
  • Development
  • Attend and contribute to the Health & Safety Group, Team Meetings and other groups as directed.
