South Lakeland District Council is seeking to recruit a Housing Options and Strategy Specialist within the Specialist (People) Team. The post is based at the Council’s head offices in Kendal.
The successful applicant will be responsible for providing specialist housing options and affordable housing advice to Case Management Officers on complex cases, undertaking homelessness reviews, allocations and affordable housing appeals, working with partners to develop and implement the Council’s Homelessness Strategy and Allocations Policy.
Other duties will include the development of other homeless and housing policies and procedures including, but not limited to;
- Affordable Housing Policy and Procedures
- Local Connection Policy
- Local Lettings Policy
The successful candidate will be proactive in seeking out new opportunities to work with partners to further develop services available to people who are homeless or threatened with homelessness including rough sleepers. The successful candidate will be required to attend Council committees and working groups as required, providing advice to officers and elected members and also will attend subregional groups as necessary.
The successful candidate will need to possess a relevant degree or qualification and have previous relevant experience. They will also need to be a member of the Chartered Institute of Housing or be working towards this. They will require good IT skills and have the ability to research case law and good practice in the further development of this area of work.
