Welfare Rights Officer

 

Fleming House, Cumbernauld

 

£30,921 per annum (rising to £32,548 per annum after 12 months service, subject to satisfactory performance)  

 

37.5 hours per week

We are seeking an experienced person to support our tenants to access welfare benefits and maximise income.  Positive outcomes support tenancy sustainment which is a key objective for us as a housing provider.   The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to manage a demanding and diverse workload, with a proven track record in the delivery of Welfare Rights services.

 

The role of Welfare Rights Officer will include:

  • Providing a comprehensive management and resolution service for welfare related queries and complaints, including; benefits, budgets and debt management
  • Producing statistical information on key performance indicators to assist management with performance monitoring processes
  • Negotiating payments to ensure evictions are avoided, advocating for and where necessary, representing residents at appeal tribunals and other hearings
  • Supporting the management, development and implementation of effective systems and processes that enable the accurate recording of customer information
  • Meeting all legislative and regulatory requirements for welfare rights activities

 

Skills and experiences:

  • Working knowledge of welfare benefits regulation, relevant legislation and case law is essential
  • Understanding of good practice principles relating to claim processes and entitlement
  • Proven experience of planning, organising and prioritising work loads in order to meet deadlines
  • Ability to analyse data, diagnose problems and implement effective solutions
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office packages
