The Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) and Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust (JRHT) were established over 100 years ago by Joseph Rowntree to search out the underlying causes of social ‘evil’, influence social advancement and demonstrate how that can be achieved. Owing to recent structural changes, the two organisations have both incorporated and have created a group structure. They are individual charities within the group that share a common heritage and the same vision; together employing 800 staff. JRF is an independent social change organisation with an endowment of £400m and annual spending of £14m working to solve UK poverty, based in York with offices in London and Glasgow.

JRHT is a registered housing association and care provider in York and north-east England. JRHT has a turnover of £27m and owns 2,528 homes across a range of tenures for residents with varying levels of housing and support needs in York, Leeds, Scarborough, North Yorkshire, and Hartlepool.

JRHT is now moving forward at pace and our Board is high-performing, engaged and determined to deliver the best possible outcomes for our communities. There is now an outstanding opportunity for two new Trustees to help us deliver our exciting plans for growth and build more high-quality homes. We’re looking for senior leaders from the social housing/care support sectors with a proven strategic profile to bring their credibility, skills and insight to our strong and ambitious Board.

We are particularly interested in candidates with commercial acumen who will bring expertise in accounting, risk, asset management, and/or digital or technology innovation. Having worked at board or senior executive level and developed a reputation for delivering impressive outcomes in complex, regulated, multi-stakeholder environments, you will share our passion for making a lasting difference to peoples’ lives and will be as excited about our considerable potential as we are.

For the Audit and Risk Committee role, which covers both JRF and JRHT, we require someone with a social housing background who has expertise in financial management and is particularly skilled in an audit and risk reporting capacity.
