Working with our Partner Registered Providers, private providers and as client for the Council’s ALMO, Strategic Housing plays a key role in understanding and guiding/commissioning all aspects of housing provision within the borough, delivering over 200 units of affordable accommodation pa. With high levels of housing need, and an ageing population, we have ambitious plans to increase this rate of delivery, whilst supporting the Council’s wider objectives of inclusive regeneration and economic growth, and as a key player within the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.
We are currently looking to recruit a Housing Strategy Officer to join this small team of specialists. Experience in housing research and developing policy and strategy will be key as will an understanding of the delivery of affordable and specialist and supported housing.
Also key will be an understanding of the operating environment of Registered Providers. You will have previous experience of housing strategy and policy development in a similar role and have a current sound knowledge and understanding of the housing development processes; housing legislation, policy issues and trends; and planning policy and processes.
You will have sound negotiation and excellent communication skills with an ability to communicate complex issues to a diverse range of audiences, including elected Members, community groups and senior managers.
The role also involves developing housing related strategies and policies to inform delivery of the Council’s strategic housing functions and making Stockport a place of choice to live, work and enjoy.
