Homelessness Prevention Officer

Salary £32,141 – £36,516 per annum

(depending on experience)

Hertsmere Borough Council is seeking to appoint a Senior Homelessness Prevention Officer and a Homelessness Prevention Officer within the Housing Service.

Hertsmere is a non-stock holding authority and as such faces significant challenges in meeting local housing needs.  In response to this and delivery against the Homelessness Reduction Act, we are recruiting to these roles within the prevention team to take the service forward.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the busy Housing Team who are working hard to deliver the homelessness prevention service effectively.  You will be able to contribute to developing the service and have opportunities to develop your own ideas and initiatives to meet the challenges ahead.

We are looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated individuals with a good knowledge of housing and associated legalisation. You will need to be organised and methodical to manage a complex and varied work load.  You will need a positive attitude and caring approach towards customers.  You will have excellent communication, negotiation and problem solving skills to find solutions for those facing housing problems.

The ideal candidates will have suitable relevant qualifications and experience in a housing related environment.  However where applicants have limited qualifications, training opportunities may be offered.

The Homelessness Prevention role will join the small team of officers discharging the Councils’ responsibilities to pro-actively prevent and relieve homelessness.  The Senior role will manage the team of Homelessness Prevention Officers providing an effective homelessness prevention service in line with the requirements of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.  The role will ensure that the council’s responsibilities to pro-actively prevent and relieve homelessness meet best practice, working with a wide variety of stakeholders to ensure referral system’s and operational mechanisms are in place to identify and support those threatened with homelessness at an early stage. As well as managing their own caseload the Senior role will ensure policies, procedures and systems are in place for effective investigation and they will oversee decision making in cases where homelessness cannot be prevented.

The posts are offered on a full time, permanent basis (36 hours per week).

Benefits include 26 – 31 days annual leave (depending on the length of Local Government Service), local government pension scheme, flexible working hours (including home working), free car parking, free use of leisure facilities, cycle scheme, season ticket loans and access to a large staff roof garden.

To apply and for further information on the role, the borough and our benefits, visit www.hertsmerecareers.co.uk. Please clearly state which position you are applying for.
