About Us

Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing has a vision that “everyone has a home and the opportunity to live well”; that means working with partners to create sustainable and vibrant neighbourhoods where our customers want to live. With 57,000 homes and more than 120,000 residents and customers we have a real opportunity to make that vision a reality. Our people care, dare and collaborate to ensure we achieve this People Powered Living.

The service in Southwark is a step down service supporting customers with forensic mental health concerns. Customers are supported for up to two years in preparing to move into general needs housing and support themselves with their community.

This role

The Care & Support Manager is Pivotal to the success of our forensic mental health scheme in South London where we support 15 customers over 2 services. As a step down service you will lead the team in preparing customers for independent living .

You will manage and coach the team of support workers who are responsible for day to day running of the support service we provide. Through providing an excellent level of customer service and ensuring that all regulatory and contractual commitments are met you will drive continual improvement. We expect the manager to lead by example and develop a team to deliver the service to its highest standard.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in the role you will have substantial people management experience within support services. Any experience of supporting individuals with mental health disorders would be an advantage, but is not essential. We are seeking individuals that have previously provided care or support to vulnerable adults. You will demonstrate you understand what good support looks like which is appropriate to the age, gender, disability, race, religion and sexuality of the customer to improve their quality of life and independence

As our customers have a variety of personality disorders, they on occasion can react to situations in an unpredictable manor so you must be confident at dealing with these challenging situations in a calm and professional manner. You will also need substantial experience of managing teams and embedding best working practices.

You will also need basic literacy to be able to maintain support plans and records and be confident at updating these on IT systems.

What you'll get in return

You’ll be working in a fast-paced environment where you can benefit from our comprehensive in-house training to continue developing your skills. We offer excellent benefits, including:

  • 28 days annual leave plus public holidays and an additional Belief Day, with the option to buy or sell up to 5 days leave
  • Healthcare cashplan
  • Matched contribution pension scheme (up to 9%)
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption leave
  • Salary sacrifice schemes and season ticket loans
  • Life assurance scheme
  • Paid volunteer days
  • Plus lots of voluntary benefits including cash back and discounts from high street names

Our promise

All employment decisions at MTVH are based on business needs, job requirements and individual qualifications, without regard to age, disability, gender reassignment, marital status, pregnancy or maternity, race or religion, sex or sexual orientation.

We are proud to have been recognised by Disability Confident for our commitment to disabled people and those with long term health conditions by providing fair and equal opportunities for all applicants enabling them to fulfil their potential and realise their aspirations.

The nature of this role means that the post holder will be involved in regulated activity with vulnerable adults. To meet our commitment to providing safe, high quality services to our customers we will complete an enhanced background check with the Disclosure and Barring Service, which will include a check of the Barred list, once an offer employment is made. A new check will be completed every three years.
