We are looking for a Housing Development and Viability Officer to join the Housing Policy, Development and Viability Team. You will play a key role in delivering the Council’s Housing Strategy and the Council’s housing priorities in relation to the delivery of new housing. You will work in partnership with Registered Providers, developers and Homes England to deliver good quality new homes including affordable homes.

You will evaluate and provide feedback on development proposals from private developers, Registered Providers or other agencies to ensure schemes maximise affordable housing delivery. You will provide the housing response to consultations on planning applications, liaising with planning case officers to ensure timely feedback is proved. You will complete scheme assessments, and refer schemes for Independent Development Viability Assessment where necessary.

A well organised team player with several years’ relevant experience in the housing development sector you will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage both projects and your own time well. You will be familiar with and able to use Microsoft Office applications on a daily basis.

You should also have an understanding of the different mechanisms used to deliver new affordable housing and a working understanding of local land markets and development economics.

Due to current restrictions, the role may initially be fully remote with necessary equipment provided. Once the Council’s offices re-open you will be part office based and part home based.

For an informal discussion please contact Tracey Barrett (Team Leader Housing Policy, Development & Viability) on (01234) 718572 or email Tracey.Barrett@bedford.gov.uk .
