Wythenshawe Community Housing Group is a not-for-profit provider of social housing governed by a voluntary Board, registered under the Companies Act 2006 and registered with the Regulator of Social Housing (“RSH”) as a social landlord.

With responsibility for approx.13,700 homes across an area of four square-miles, Wythenshawe Community Housing Group (WCHG) is the largest Manchester-based registered housing provider and one of the largest in Greater Manchester.  We also have the highest possible ratings from the RSH (G1V1) and are proud to be the first housing association in the North West to achieve Investors in People (IIP) Platinum status.

We provide a home to just over 29,000 people, about 37% of the Wythenshawe community. Some 50% of our 540 staff live in Wythenshawe and 20% are also our tenants. The Group has a critical role as a community-based business that goes beyond housing. In Wythenshawe we are a major local employer, investor, support provider and enabler, building on the strengths of local people, organisations and the wider community.

With a turnover of nearly £64m in 2020, our growth plans for 2020-2025 include an ambitious development programme which will see us building 1,300 new homes across all tenures. This will sit alongside us continuing to deliver excellent customer service, supporting local communities and being an outstanding employer.

Our close links within Wythenshawe meant we were well-placed to respond to the pandemic that changed all our lives. We received 1,190 requests for extra support due to coronavirus and 3,812 residents received extra support. Emerging from lockdown will bring challenges but as a community housing group, we will support the community to rebuild and finally relaunch, with services and support that are stronger and even more resilient and will shape and define Wythenshawe through the 2020s and beyond.

We are especially committed to increasing contact between Board members and our tenants and residents and as part of the Board renewal process we are now looking to recruit a new Board Member and also a new Chair for our Audit & Risk Committee.

For the Board Member role, we are looking for candidates who can bring insight into our community or communities such as ours. Candidates will need to be able to contribute to the Board at a strategic level and bring experience from either the voluntary and social enterprise sector, health/education sector or a major local employer with active involvement in Wythenshawe. An understanding of partnership working would also be useful but is not essential.

For the Chair of our Audit and Risk Committee we are looking for candidates with a professional qualification in finance and a good knowledge of finance, treasury and risk in an organisation of comparable scale and complexity. Chairing experience is essential as is an interest in (or knowledge of) the social housing sector.

It is crucial that as a Board we collectively retain strong links to our customers and our local communities. We are committed to the benefits of diversity across the organisation and seek to ensure that Board and Committee membership reflects the communities we serve, with particular composition targets relating to ethnicity and gender. We are also a Disability Confident Employer.
