The Rent Service is part of the Digital and Customer Services Division of Birmingham City Council. We manage the collection of £268 million housing rents and also have responsibility for the recovery of former tenancy debt and Housing Benefit Overpayments for Local Authority tenants. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with experience of working in Housing, particularly rent collection. You will oversee a team of officers, assisted by a management team to ensure that the Council’s income from rent is maximised for the benefit of the citizens of Birmingham.
The successful applicant will manage a diverse operation and will be expected to bring experience as well as new ideas and approaches to rental collection.
Experience and Skills. The successful candidate will ideally need:
- Management experience in collection of rent;
- A knowledge of the factors affecting rent collection;
- The ability to implement successful change strategies;
- Excellent communication skills and able to deal with a diverse range of stakeholders;
- An appetite for change, being inquisitive and willing to drive new ways of working;
- To be a team player contributing to wider Council strategies;
- Dedicated to delivering exception levels of customer service.
You will be based within the Birmingham City Council Rent Service located at 10 Woodcock Street, Birmingham B4 7BL; however, in recognition of the current difficulties associated with the Coronavirus, much of the time will be spent working from home/remotely.
