We are recruiting for a Rent and Service Charge Officer to assist in managing and developing the rent and service charge process at Yorkshire Housing.

What will I be doing? 

In this important role you will be ensuring that rents and service charges are calculated in line with Group policy, are correctly entered onto the rent system and are notified to customers and relevant external parties to meet external compliance deadlines.

You will be preparing service charge schedules for all schemes annually, correctly calculating revised charges based on Group policy, for review and sign off by Customer Service Delivery.  In addition, calculating new rents annually in accordance with Housing Corporation guidelines and service charge standards. This will also include reviewing legislation and ensuring compliance.

Additional activities will be supervising the uploading of new rents and service charges into the rent system, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.   Also, you will produce letters and communications for tenants, ensuring compliance with legal deadlines.

You will also provide timely and accurate information to Local Authorities in support of the Housing Benefit system.  Also working cross-functionally, with housing teams, the IT team and the Rent Ledger Supervisor, manage, review and improve the process for updating and maintaining rent and service charges on the rent system and improve functionality of accounting systems.

Extra activities will include providing information and support for consultation with tenants, contributing towards collection and analysis of annual RSR data.  Ultimately, you will continuously improve the rent and service charge process.  There will also be a responsibility for developing and training service charge assistants.

Additional key requirements include:

  • Experience of co-ordinating, analysing and presenting complex sets of numerical information
  • Experience of creating and using complex spreadsheets
  • Experience of working in the housing sector or similar services
  • Knowledge of service charge policy and affordable housing rent restructuring.
  • Confident in use of IT / Microsoft Office
  • Able to present information in a clear & concise way, both in writing and orally
  • Able to work on own initiative and within a team
  • Able to work to deadlines
  • Tactful and diplomatic but also adaptable and resourceful

What can you expect from Yorkshire Housing? 

We offer a salary of  £28,161 per annum for a 35 hour week, 25 days annual leave (raising annually to 30 days) plus Bank Holidays.  We also have a reward package to suit everyone – from a variety of retail discounts to a contributory pension scheme where we will match your contributions up to 9%.

This is a  permanent, full time (35 hours per week) role.  Due to Covid-19 for the medium term at least this role will be undertaken remotely but contractually based from our Leeds Head Office.
