United Communities and Solon South West have been working together for a year on a proposed merger to create a new organisation, which would become Bristol's largest housing association and would play a vital role in driving forward the agenda for affordable housing and stronger communities in the city. The first step is a Strategic Alliance.

Kate John Associates are delighted to be a retained partner in recruiting a Finance Director for United Communities and Solon South West.

This is a high profile role which requires a hands on approach but also excellent leadership skills. Comfortable with detail where necessary you will also have the capability of strategic delivery.

Overall purpose of the role:

The Finance Director will provide strategic vision and leadership of  financial management for the Strategic Alliance formed between United Communities and Solon South West. This will be delivered through the application of leadership, commercial, professional and technical skills, ultimately influencing executive decisions with credible financial analysis.

You will work collaboratively with the Chief Executive, Board and Executive Team to deliver the Business Plan for the Strategic Alliance.

Responsibilities include;

  • The Finance, IT and business assurance functions, ensuring that strategic planning and operational performance optimise the long term financial viability of the Strategic Alliance.
  • Providing financial and commercial advice and guidance to the Chief Executive, Board and Senior Leadership Team including in relation to treasury, risk management and governance

Person Specification

You will have a naturally inquisitive outlook and experience of empowering people around you.

A self-starter, you will hold an accounting qualification (ACCA/ACCA/CIPFA/CIMA) and either possess the ambition to take the next step up in your career, or equally you may already be a Finance Director looking for the next challenge.

You will be comfortable working and demonstrating good judgement under pressure.

You will have an open and adaptable personal style and be comfortable dealing with a wide range of people and organisational structures.

Excellent communication skills as well as written reporting skills required.
