Job Details

Muir Group owns and manages more than 5,500 homes across the country, in over 30 local authority areas. Our teams help people with their housing needs and create neighbourhoods where communities can flourish.  We employ over 130 people in a variety of roles and have also been awarded the coveted Gold accreditation by Investors in People. Predominantly based in the North West, Muir's Chester HQ is supported by offices in Blackpool, Burnley, and Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire.

As an independent co-optee on our Group Audit & Risk Committee you’ll play a central role in ensuring effective governance and scrutiny underpins our work. The Committee focuses on all matters relating to external and internal audit, and ensures that the organisation has a clear framework to work to in relation to issues of risk, internal controls and health & safety. The Committee will provide expert and objective scrutiny to business plans to ensure any initiatives undertaken by the Group represent good value for money, and ensure an extra level of scrutiny on our approach to fraud prevention and detection.

It isn’t essential that you have experience within the housing sector – we want to draw on a wide range of backgrounds to assemble a breadth of experience and perspective that can inform and challenge how we work. It’s important that you have a good understanding of the principles of audit and risk management in organisations, and that you offer strengths in financial and / or risk management. Strong candidates will bring a keen eye for detail that is complemented by a strategic awareness and an appreciation of the ‘big picture’. It’s essential that you can work well with others, achieving consensus through collaboration, while being ready to challenge when appropriate.

There is a great deal going on within the Group currently. A new corporate strategy is in development and we are investing in our housing development capacity. We are also exploring how we can make better use of digital technology to improve how we engage with and support our customers. We’re steadily building a reputation that is founded on sound governance and strategic decision-making, effective financial management, and a highly talented and committed workforce. You can help us build on these strengths.

Please visit www.join-muir.co.uk to find out more. For a confidential discussion or more information please contact Anne Elliott at ema on 07875 762029. No agencies please.

Closing date: 12 noon, 4th January 2021.
