Delivering support with a difference. That’s when it hits home.

We have a rewarding opportunity for you to join our Transforming Care team, supporting our brilliant customers to live a fulfilling life in their own home within the local community.

You’ll be supporting eight of our wonderful customers, who are all young adults (aged under 25) living within their own flat within our beautiful communal house in St Albans.  Our customers have varying levels of learning disabilities with a huge amount of potential to develop their skills to be as enabled and independent as possible.  For some customers, their needs are more complex with both learning and physical challenges and will need support and reassurance to help them make that exciting first step to moving out of their family home to living independently on their own.  They have so many varied interests including horses, gardening, cooking, listening to music and watching films.  A lot of our customers enjoy a walk in the park, a trip to a coffee shop, a ride out on the bus, or going to the local gym to enjoy a swim and the steam room. Visiting and spending time with their family is hugely important to them too!  They are looking for a team who will share
their interests as well as encourage and support them to participate in lots of new activities too!

We are currently in the process of renovating their home which is beautiful old building with a communal lounge for social, therapeutic and group activities, sparkly new office for the team and a big garden (which has lots of space to grow plants or veg if our customers fancy that!).  It will be all ready for our customers to move in by April 2021.

About our team and the role

You’ll be working alongside Sally our Clinical Registered Manager, our Positive Behavioural Support Practitioner and brand-new team of Support Workers and Team Leaders (we’re currently recruiting to these roles too).  You’ll support our customers with any aspects of their day to day living, working in a person-centred way so that they can enjoy the best quality of life and live as independently as possible.  You’ll provide personal care in a strengths-based way to facilitate greater independence, as well as use creative solutions, and assistive technology where available, to support independence.

Where you’ll work

You’ll work with our customers as they transition and move into their own home in St Albans, Hertfordshire, as well as supporting them in the community. Their home is on a lovely quiet road, with lots of shops, great bus routes and a train station nearby at St Albans – perfect for the commute or a day out!  You can use public transport to support our customers and we’ll pay your expenses to cover this!

Working hours

Our customers’ need support 24/7 to meet their needs, so you’ll take your turn working on a rota which will include working days, evenings, weekends, bank holidays and waking nights. You may also be required to do sleep ins in which an enhancement will be paid.  As we’re asking you to be flexible for our customer, we’ll also give you the time back that you need to spend time doing the things that matter to you!

About you

You’ll be passionate and motivated to help our customers with any aspect of their day to day living and really impress us with your ability to work in a person centred, strengths-based way.  You’ll help change their lives for the better by involving them (and their support network) in working towards their aspirations and achievements. You’ll use our exciting new support practice model ‘LIFE’ (Living Independently, Feeling Enabled) to deliver brilliant support.

It’s important that you have worked in a similar role before, are willing to provide personal care and have experience of helping customers to reach their full potential.  Holding level 2 or equivalent in Health and Social Care (or be willing to study for this with our support), you’ll have a great knowledge of professional boundaries, safeguarding, risk assessment and working with personalised support plans.

When you join, you’ll need to have a valid Enhanced Check under the Disclosure and Barring Service. The great news is that we will pay for that to be done if you don’t have a transferrable one.

How we’ll support you

We’ll nurture your talent, help you understand how things work here and you’ll have a fantastic induction with ongoing learning and support! You’ll be trained to support our customer’s mental and physical wellbeing and to take positive risks to enable their successful journey to having their own home and being part of the community. If required (and only as a last resort), if you need to use physical intervention, we will provide you with training and support to do this safely.

We want you to get the right balance and to be and feel always at your best to deliver brilliant outcomes for our customer.  Your wellbeing and taking time back when you need it too is our top priority!
