Delivering support with a difference. That’s when it hits home.

At Home Group it’s critical we continue to deliver services for our customers during the COVID-19 outbreak, and our awesome colleagues are at the very heart of making that happen. We need Brilliant People like you to join us. We're doing things a little differently at the moment, so to keep you, our customers and ourselves safe we’ll engage with you digitally.

We have a rewarding opportunity for you to join our Transforming Care team, supporting our brilliant customers to live a fulfilling life in their own home within the local community.  Our team support our customers who have complex support needs which may include learning disabilities, autism, a diagnosis of mental health conditions, personality disorders, communication differences alongside ongoing physical health challenges.  They may also have a forensic background and support needs related to their behaviour.

You’ll be supporting eight of our wonderful customers, who are all young adults (aged under 25) living within their own flat within our beautiful communal house in St Albans.  Our customers have varying levels of learning disabilities with a huge amount of potential to develop their skills to be as enabled and independent as possible.  For some customers, their needs are more complex with both learning and physical challenges and will need support and reassurance to help them make that exciting first step to moving out of their family home to living independently on their own.  They have so many varied interests including horses, gardening, cooking, listening to music and watching films.  A lot of our customers enjoy a walk in the park, a trip to a coffee shop, a ride out on the bus, or going to the local gym to enjoy a swim and the steam room. Visiting and spending time with their family is hugely important to them too!  They are looking for a team who will share
their interests as well as encourage and support them to participate in lots of new activities too!

We are currently in the process of renovating their home which is beautiful old building with a communal lounge for social, therapeutic and group activities, sparkly new office for the team and a big garden (which has lots of space to grow plants or veg if our customers fancy that!).  It will be all ready for our customers to move in by April 2021.

As our Team Leader / Lead Support Worker (known internally by us as Positive Behavioural Support Team Leader), you’ll manage our small team of frontline Support Workers in providing person-centred, strengths-based and psychologically informed support.    Together, you’ll be supporting our customers to enjoy the best quality of life and live as independently as possible.  As our team and safeguarding lead, you’ll use your experience and brilliant skills in effectively motivating and directing colleagues. ensuring our LIFE support practice model (Living Independently and Feeling Enabled) is delivered in a safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led way.  We’ll tell you all about it when we meet you!  You’ll also oversee complex support, working with our customer displaying any behaviours of concern and any requirement for personal care.

About our team

You’ll report to our new Clinical Registered Manager (we’re currently recruiting to this role too) and will work alongside our clinical colleagues and new team of Support Workers who are all passionate about supporting our customers to reach to reach their goals and celebrate their achievements.  Once our customers are all moved in, you’ll be leading our small support team.

Where you’ll work

You’ll work with our customers as they transition and move into their own home in St Albans, Hertfordshire, as well as supporting them in the community. Their home is on a lovely quiet road, with lots of shops, great bus routes and a train station nearby at St Albans – perfect for the commute or a day out!  You can use public transport to support our customers and we’ll pay your expenses to cover this!

Working hours

Our customers’ need support 24/7 to meet their needs, so you’ll take your turn with your team working on a rota which could include working days, evenings, weekends, bank holidays and waking nights. You may also be required to do sleep ins or be on call in which an enhancement will be paid.  As we’re asking you to be flexible for our customer, we’ll also give you the time back that you need to spend time doing the things that matter to you!

About you

You’ll have an excellent working knowledge and experience in Care and Support, including safeguarding and responding quickly and appropriately to emerging risks to individuals, teams or service delivery. It’s important to us that you have worked in a Senior Support Worker role before, preferably with people with Learning Disabilities, working with support and risk management plans.  Ideally holding a Level 2 or 3 Diploma in Adult Health & Social Care or equivalent, you’ll have a great understanding and passion for promoting independence and social inclusion through person centred support. You’ll provide personal care in a strengths-based way to facilitate greater independence, as well as using creative solutions, and assistive technology where available to support independence.

To be awesome in this job, your key strengths will lie in people management and motivation, bringing colleagues together to share information, best practice, and overall ensuring our customer has a brilliant team!

When you join, you’ll need to have a valid Enhanced Check under the Disclosure and Barring Service. The great news is that we will pay for that to be done if you don’t have a transferrable one.

How we’ll support you

If required (and only as a last resort), if you need to use physical intervention, we will provide you with training and support to do this safely.
