Keeping our business healthy and safe. That’s when it hits home

We have fabulous opportunity for you to join our team. As our Head of Health & Safety, you will help us shape our future! You’ll lead our brilliant Health & Safety and Insurance team and enable Home Group to deliver the high-quality service that keeps our customers and colleagues safe. You’ll develop and implement our Health and Safety strategy, ensuring a clear framework that drives compliance with all our requirements.

You will be an important member of our highly respected and specialist health and safety team. We are pretty awesome (if we say so ourselves) we’ve just been awarded our 6^th (!!) consecutive ROSPA Gold award and hold OHSAS 18001 accreditation! Critical to making the service we deliver a success are the strong relationships we’ve developed across the wider business and with our external partners.

We are super passionate about developing and implementing the Health and Safety strategy, plan and policies for Home Group so that there is a clear framework that drives compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.  You’ll be accountable to advise on all aspects of Health and Safety, including advice to the Board, Executive and Senior Management Team on the implications of current and emerging Health and Safety legislation. You will evaluate options, make recommendations and generate action plans to ensure compliance across the organisation.  You’ll also support our operational managers and colleagues so that they can competently conduct health and safety activities.

All in all, you are brilliant and have energy and passion to lead our team. We’ll support you all the way and are like you, committed to delivering a quality service, identifying risks and always looking for opportunities to improve.

About our team

To us were not just a team we’re a ‘work family’. You will work for Matt Forrest, Executive Director of Operations; who brings a great inspiring and pragmatic leadership style that empowers his teams. Matt is also Home Groups resident “Workplace” superstar and can regularly be seen around the business car park or even his garage (!) recording his latest video update.

There are around 12 in the team and we don’t just love all things Health & Safety and Insurance, we’re there for each other too! The team work hard together but also really enjoy each other’s company (more virtually then ever these days!) both in and outside the office. While at work, we enjoy a laugh and a healthy debate!

Working hours

It’s the team’s unwritten rule that you attend the important appointments in life, be it your child’s school play, your partner’s graduation, or to get your new fridge delivered. You can elect to fit these around your working day or use your flexi to take the time off. Our focus is on getting the job done, not your working hours!

About you

You’re educated to degree (or equivalent) level and have professional qualifications in Health, Safety & Fire, as well as being a Chartered member of IOSH. You’ve held senior roles, leading large teams within the public or private sector and always within customer focussed multi-site organisations. You have a detailed understanding of Health, Safety & Fire legislation and the legal obligations.

You’ll have experience or awareness of Health & Safety in Housing and Social care sectors. What’s important to us is that you are an experienced Health & Safety professional with a practical and sensible approach to its evolution in a large national organisation. You excel at identifying and developing opportunities for improvement and problem solving at a senior level, and make sure the enhancements you’ve identified are delivered. It’s also important that you have experience of leading Infection & Disease control in Care organisations.

As a leader you’ll be brilliant at organising and leading teams, not just within your own team but influencing on a cross functional basis too.

Here at Home Group we have invested heavily in our future and use current and up to date equipment. You’ll be issued with the latest kit, which will include a Surface Pro and mobile. So it's really important to us that you are technologically savvy (or at the very least not a technophobe).
