Housing is a top priority for Hackney. Ensuring that we deliver a high quality, customer focused repairs service across our 30,000 homes is paramount. We have recently remodelled our repairs service to match our aspirations for an integrated approach and we are looking for a senior manager who can take us on the next stage of our improvement journey.

Hackney Council is looking for an experienced surveyor with a housing background to provide leadership and direction to the surveying and communal works team of around 20 people as well as managing operational teams within the DLO. You will make sure all repairs are specified, planned and delivered effectively and that our operational teams are engaged and part of this journey. You will ensure works consistently meet residents’ expectations whether delivered in-house or through partner contractors.

Day-to-day you will be responsible for budget planning and resource allocation and will need to bring a high level of surveying and contractor management expertise. You will need to develop a performance culture throughout your teams, with a strong focus on staff development, effective joint working, and putting in place new ITC solutions, including mobile working.

To excel in this position, you will need to be self-motivated, with strong technical and people management skills. We want someone with significant experience of building contract management who can demonstrate that they can improve delivery of responsive repairs service within a challenging environment. You will need an excellent track record of leading high performing technical and operational teams and show a strong commitment to customer service and resident engagement.

Ideally you will have a RICS accredited degree in building surveying, or related discipline, and a relevant health and safety qualification. A project management qualification and experience managing Section 20 consultation and providing high level advice on disrepair cases would also be useful.

Hackney is one of the UK’s highest performing local authorities, serving one of London’s best places to live and work. We have achieved a huge amount: our services, our schools, our public spaces are all amongst the very best. We have changed the reputation, not just of the Council, but of Hackney itself. Bringing jobs and investment into the borough, securing the legacy from the 2012 Games, and making this a place of which we can all be proud.

When applying, it is essential that you include a supporting statement, addressing how your skills, knowledge and experience meet all aspects of the post, as indicated in the job description and person specification.

The recruitment process is anonymous. Please ensure that you do not include your name on any of your supporting documents or on the file attachments.

Closing date for applications: 7th March 2021

We are also working towards our vision, which is to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud; a place that celebrates diversity and where everyone can feel valued, included and involved. In order to achieve this, we look for people who are: Proud; Ambitious; Pioneering; Open; Proactive; Inclusive.

Hackney Council works to eradicate discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy and maternity, age and marital status. We also recognise that people can be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will also work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class. We also welcome those interested in flexible working. We particularly welcome applications from disabled people, as this group is currently under represented in our workforce.
