Delivering support with a difference. That’s when it hits home.

We have a rewarding opportunity for you to join our Transforming Care team, supporting our brilliant customers to live a fulfilling life in our supported living service.  You’ll be working as part of a small team, supporting one of our wonderful customers in our service, who are all young men (aged under 25) to live in their own flat within our beautiful house in St Albans.  Our customers have varying levels of learning disabilities with a huge amount of potential to develop their skills to be as enabled and independent as possible.  For two of our customers, their needs are more complex with both learning and physical challenges and will need your support and reassurance to help them make that exciting first step to living independently.

Our customers have many varied interests including a walk in the park, a trip to a coffee shop, a ride out on the bus, or going to the local gym to enjoy a swim and the steam room. Visiting and spending time with their family is hugely important to them too and they are looking for a team who will share their interests as well as encourage and support them to participate in lots of new activities too!  Their home is on a lovely quiet road with lots of shops, great bus routes and a train station nearby, perfect for the commute or a day out.

Our building is currently being renovated, with each flat being bespoke to the customer moving in and set within a beautiful old building with a big garden (which has lots of space to grow plants or veg if our customers fancy that!).  It will be ready for our customers to move in by mid-2021.

About the role and our team

As our Team Leader, you’ll manage a small team of frontline Support Workers providing person-centred and strengths-based support.    Together, you’ll be supporting our customers to enjoy the best quality of life and live as independently as possible.  As our team and safeguarding lead, you’ll use your experience and brilliant skills in effectively motivating and directing colleagues, ensuring our LIFE support practice model (Living Independently and Feeling Enabled) is delivered in a safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led way.  You’ll also oversee complex support, working with our customer displaying any behaviours of concern and any requirement for personal care.

You’ll report to Sally our Registered Manager and will work alongside Dimitra our Positive Behavioural Support Practitioner, other Team Leaders and Support Workers too.

Working hours

Our customers’ need support 24/7 to meet their needs, so you’ll take your turn with your team working on a rota which could include working days, evenings, weekends and bank holidays.  You may also be required to be on call in which an enhancement will be paid.  As we’re asking you to be flexible for our customer, we’ll also give you the time back that you need to spend time doing the things that matter to you!

About you

You’ll have an excellent knowledge and previous experience in Care and Support, including safeguarding, responding quickly and appropriately to emerging risks to customers and teams.  It’s important to us that you have worked in a Senior Support Worker role before, preferably with people with Learning Disabilities, as well as working with support and risk management plans.

Ideally you’ll hold a Level 2 or 3 Diploma in Adult Health & Social Care or equivalent, if not we’ll pay for this and support you to achieve it.  You’ll have a passion for promoting independence through person centred support and providing personal care in a strengths-based way to facilitate greater independence.  To be awesome in this job, your key strengths will lie in people management and motivation, bringing colleagues together to share information, best practice, and overall ensuring our customer has a brilliant team!

You’ll need to have a valid Enhanced Check under the Disclosure and Barring Service which we’ll pay for.

How we’ll support you

We’ll nurture your talent; help you understand how things work here and you’ll have a fantastic induction with ongoing learning and support! You’ll be trained to support our customer’s mental and physical wellbeing using our support practice model LIFE (Living Independently, Feeling Enabled) and trained in Positive Behavioural Support to deliver brilliant outcomes.
