Hackney’s vision is for everyone in the borough to have a genuinely affordable, good quality and stable home. As a result, we need your expertise in managing, maintaining and improving our growing number of properties. This key role gives you scope to help to shape and develop the future of statutory leasehold consultation and showcase good practice in Hackney Council.

As a local authority landlord we carry out a wide range of major works to the external and communal parts of blocks and estates for which your specialist knowledge will be needed to effectively consult with and invoice leaseholders for their share of costs.

You will report to the Leasehold Consultation & Billing Manager, managing staff and leading the timely delivery of Section 20 consultation and associated billing for this specialist team. You will support the financial management of major works charges, shared ownership and right to buy. Ensuring timely and precise billing, you will meet targets and maximise income, while delivering excellent customer service. You’ll also use your specialist knowledge to develop and support initiatives that improve business processes and enhance service delivery.

You will be well organised and focused, bringing fresh ideas and energy to this team. Experience of best practice in the leasehold and property management arena, including good knowledge and hands on experience of fulfilling and guiding staff to fulfil Section 20 and Section 20B requirements. Your expertise will mean you can reply robustly to written observations, complaints and other challenges, and provide validation and rationale for works.  Strong leadership skills and excellent interpersonal skills which enable you to deal with a variety of managerial issues as well as people from residents and colleagues, to external partners.

Hackney is one of the UK’s highest performing local authorities, serving one of London’s best places to live and work. We have achieved a huge amount: our services, our schools, our public spaces are all amongst the very best. We have changed the reputation, not just of the Council, but of Hackney itself. Bringing jobs and investment into the borough, securing the legacy from the 2012 Games, and making this a place of which we can all be proud.

When applying, it is essential that you include a supporting statement, addressing how your skills, knowledge and experience meet all aspects of the post, as indicated in the job description and person specification.

The recruitment process is anonymous. Please ensure that you do not include your name on any of your supporting documents or on the file attachments.

Closing date for applications: 25 March 2021

Hackney Council works to eradicate discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy and maternity, age and marital status. We also recognise that people can be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will also work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class. We also welcome those interested in flexible working. We particularly welcome applications from disabled people, as this group is currently under represented in our workforce.
