About Us:

Deliver a 21st century model housing estate that is carbon-neutral by 2030.

Following the Grenfell Tower tragedy, a commitment was made to undertake a comprehensive refurbishment of the Lancaster West Estate, to be delivered sensitively and collaboratively with residents.

As part of a council commitment to deliver carbon-neutral council housing by 2030, the scope of the refurbishment now embraces all elements that will improve the energy performance of the homes we manage.

The Role:

As Head of Property Refurbishment and Decarbonisation, you will lead our in-house property refurbishment team, also managing various contractors to deliver a programme of internal refurbishment to all tenanted properties and voids on the estate.

This includes embedding a range of sustainability initiatives and energy-saving measures within the refurbishment programme, and you will be a lead advocate to embed energy saving measures in the homes we manage so that they move towards carbon neutrality by 2030.

You’ll need to manage building contracts and overall plans to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget and to specification, so there’s a strong organisational and commercial element to the role.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information

About You:

You’re likely to have experience of working in capital works and refurbishment in housing, with a strong track record of project and people management that delivers outcomes for residents.  A commitment to sustainability and tackling climate change is a must.

You will have experience of preparing specifications and cost planning, resident liaison, maximising health and safety compliance, and quality control throughout the delivery of building projects.

Given the sensitivities of the role, you’ll also need strong resident engagement skills.
Consultative, collaborative and engaging, you’ll be sensitive to the needs of a traumatised community while also ambitious to achieve a positive legacy. Outstanding communication, negotiating and influencing skills are essential.

In return, you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme, and generous annual leave plus bank holidays.

Please apply online explaining how you meet the requirements set out in the person specification and job description. CV’s will not be considered for this role.

Politically restricted: Yes

About Us

Kensington and Chelsea is one of London’s most vibrant and recognisable boroughs. It has many unique buildings, famous museums and beautiful parks. Although the borough is geographically one of the smallest in London, at just over 4.7 square miles, it is one of the most densely populated and diverse areas in Europe. It is home to the world-famous Notting Hill Carnival. Kensington and Chelsea Council (also known as RBKC) aims to provide high quality services to improve the lives of its residents and to make the borough a better place in which to live, work, and visit.

Housing and Grenfell

This department is responsible for housing, communities and improving the lives of local residents.  This includes landlord services and estate management, planning, refurbishment, and advice and support to help maintain healthy and safe homes.

A significant part of our work is focused on creating stronger communities, by working together with local residents on recovery following the Grenfell tragedy.

In response to London’s affordable homes crisis, we are committed to building more social housing to help people on lower incomes to live, work, and raise their families in the borough. Housing also covers landlord services and estate management, planning, refurbishment, and advice and support to help maintain healthy and safe homes.

Our housing team also work closely with affordable housing providers and other agencies to manage homelessness and give support to older residents to live independently.  Find out more about our vacancies here.
