Salary

Closing date

Hackney Council is passionate about its housing stock, and committed to continue to maintain and enhance its homes and estates in both the short term and into the future. The guiding principles for investment are defined in the Council’s new Housing Asset Management Strategy 2019-2027. This document also sets the ambitions for the quality of our varied housing stock, ranging from Victorian street properties and pre-war mansion blocks to tower blocks on large estates. This is an exciting time to join Hackney and contribute to the strategy’s aim of homes in which people want to live and are proud of.

Our Property and Asset Management service is changing to enable the team to achieve the delivery of the capital programmes necessary to achieve the ambitions set in the strategy.  We are looking for a Clerk of Works and Surveying Manager who will lead on quality control and inspections of construction works under an annual capital investment of up to £50m per annum.  This is a demanding role and yet it comes with the opportunity to influence and lead a specialist technical team to deliver a high quality service.

As Clerk of Works and Surveying Manager you will play a key role in ensuring that capital works programmes are delivered to the correct technical standards, and that planned programmes contribute to the council’s wider strategic objectives for its stock as set out in the Housing Asset Management Strategy, and particularly in areas of fire safety, energy efficiency, design standards and accessibility.  You will lead on annual condition surveys of buildings which are used to form annual programmes.

The successful candidate will have significant technical experience, especially on housing maintenance contracts.  They will have a track record of embedding rigorous standards and procedures within inspections, and working with contractors to achieve positive outcomes.   Importantly, the successful candidate will be passionate about social housing, will have sound knowledge of housing sustainability requirements and building regulations, will demonstrate the ability to lead staff by example, and work effectively within multi-disciplinary environments.
