Good resident engagement and participation is a top priority for Housing Services. Making sure that we involve our residents in improving our services and promote strong, sustainable communities is paramount. We have recently remodelled our resident participation service to match our aspirations and are now looking for enthusiastic and dedicated professionals to join our new team.

This new role of Youth and Community Engagement Officer will lead in shaping our approach to engaging young people across our housing estates, ensuring that their voices are heard, and that they are more actively involved in housing service design and improvement. The postholder will forge stronger links with other Council initiatives and services that promote the empowerment and development of young people, including the Young Futures Commission, Young Hackney and our employment and enterprise services.

The role will include responsibility for the development of new youth engagement models, as well as ‘on the ground’ work with a range of stakeholders to deliver new youth-led projects and initiatives that address gaps in provision and offer new opportunities and benefits. You will contribute to other corporate strategies and plans which impact on children and young people on our estates and help to take forward key priorities.

To succeed in this position, you will need to be self-motivated, with strong communication skills and a ‘can do’ attitude. Significant experience of working with young people and delivering innovative and effective youth and engagement projects and strategies will be essential. You will additionally have an impressive track record of building and maintaining productive relationships with key stakeholders and working successfully in a diverse community.

Successful applicants will have a relevant children’s workforce qualification, ideally in youth and community work, and be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check.

For an informal discussion about this exciting role, please contact Sara Kulay, Interim Head of Resident Participation, TMOs and Communities on 0208 356 1883.
