Area Retirement Manager

Berkshire, Reading (Flexible Location South West based)

Full time, Permanent (37.5 hpw)

Salary of £28,500pa to £32,100pa rising to £43,400pa through length of service, with on-call enhancements

We have a fabulous opportunity for you to join our awesome team. We are looking for a self starter with a creative spark to come and manage and maintain our leasehold retirement schemes. Our residents live independently but socialise together within the scheme’s communal areas. Your schemes will be managed and maintained to high standards and you will identify repairs and improvements so you can sustain an excellent community where our customers choose to live, and where we can continue to deliver our customer promise.

Your scheme community plans will enable our customers to thrive and grow as a community helping to unleash their potential. You will provide outstanding leadership helping to deliver a brilliant experience, not only to your team of scheme managers but to your customers across your communities as well. You will be required to travel, and whilst the role is focused on the management of leasehold retirement you must be comfortable working across rented and supported assets also.

About our team

You’ll be working alongside a fabulous new team who are super passionate about delivering brilliant customer service in vibrant communities; ensuring our properties are safe and compliant and commercially viable whilst delivering high quality, value for money services supported by caring and energised local colleagues. To us we’re not just a team we’re a ‘work family’. You will be reporting into the Operations Manager (we are recruiting for that too) and there will be five Area Retirement Managers working across the South reporting into the Operations Manager role. We will all support each other as we are a brand-new team!

The new Operations Manager will report into our Head of Service, who is Jo. She has worked for Home Group for 28 years. There will be six of us in the team and we don’t just love to support our customers, we’re there for each other too!

Where you’ll work

There are various locations covering the South West which you will be looking after on a daily basis. These currently include Wokingham, Crowthorne, Fleet, Egham, Staines, Didcot, Hounslow, Ealing, Hillingdon, Borehamwood and Welwyn Garden City. Ideally, you will be based within, or close to this particular geographical area of schemes. The great news is that you will have the flexibility of working either from home or in one of our local offices and we’ll give you the technology and kit to make that easy!

Working hours

It’s the team’s unwritten rule that you attend the important appointments in life, be it your child’s school play, your partner’s graduation, or to get your new fridge delivered. You can elect to fit these around your working day or use your flexi to take the time off. Our focus is on getting the job done, not your working hours!

About you

As an Area Retirement Manager, you will be responsible for a team of scheme managers and their customers, therefore, it is important you have had previous experience of working within customer-focused roles and have great performance management, negotiation and conflict resolution skills. You will be able to manage a broad range of competing priorities whilst maintaining your own resilience and wellbeing, and have an excellent knowledge of housing, scheme and neighbourhood management. This will include housing law, welfare benefits, pension credits amongst other initiatives.  

Here at Home Group we have invested heavily in our future and use current and up to date equipment. You’ll be issued with the latest kit, including a Surface Pro laptop and mobile phone. So, it's important to us that you are technologically savvy (or at the very least not a technophobe!)

It would be great if you had the right certificates, however, we appreciate that you might have some great transferrable skills and the desire to work towards getting certified. Amongst some of the desirable skills and qualifications we are looking for are the ability to co-ordinate, facilitate and deliver plans across a range of remote locations, excellent stakeholder management and Institute of Property Management and coaching and mentoring qualifications.

As this is a community-based role, you need to be able to drive, as well as having access to a car insured for business purposes. Don’t worry, we’ll pay your expenses to cover this use!

You’ll have the chance to shape your own diary. However, you’ll likely spend around two days or so per week on the road and working from home the rest of the time. 

When you join, you’ll need to have a valid Enhanced Check under the Disclosure and Barring Service. The great news is that we will pay for that to be done if you don’t have a transferrable one.
