Estuary is a dynamic housing association with a strong and clear regional commitment across Essex, the three outer East London Boroughs and in East Suffolk District with a turnover of £42m, 300 employees, and over 4,600 homes under management.  We are building new homes, as well as providing general needs and supported housing to those most in need.  Looking ahead, Estuary is putting plans in place to further strengthen its board and governance following a recent regulatory assessment, refine and refocus its care and support offering, and deliver an exciting new Corporate Strategy.

Estuary are now looking to appoint of up to four new board members:

  • one new board member will bring strategic-level finance expertise - specifically around financial planning and treasury - combined with experience as a senior executive or non-executive within the social housing sector;
  • a second board member is sought with financial expertise in financial controls, audit and risk plus experience as a senior executive and/or non-executive, and an understanding of the social housing sector;
  • a third board member is sought with senior-level expertise in housing and asset management within housing association settings. Experience within organisations offering both housing as well as care and support services would be an advantage, but it is not essential; and
  • the successful candidate for the Senior Independent Director (SID) role will have previous experience as a non-executive, and a deep understanding of governance and regulation in any sector.

These roles represent the opportunity to be a part of an exciting and dynamic organisation, committed to the provision of good-quality housing, care and support and to the development of sustainable communities. Estuary is committed to diversifying its board and would warmly encourage people from under-represented groups to express an interest in these opportunities.

The Board member role is remunerated at £4,000 and the time commitment is expected to average 12 days a year. The SID role is paid £6,865 for a time commitment of around 15 days a year. The majority of board meetings will be held at Estuary’s offices in Southend.

Saxton Bampfylde Ltd is acting as an employment agency advisor to Estuary Housing Association on these appointments. For further information about the role, including details about how to apply, please visit using reference JAOAZA. Alternatively, telephone +44 (0)20 7227 0880 (during office hours). Applications should be received by noon on Friday 11 June 2021
