Wiltshire Council is looking for new members for its Housing Board. We’re looking for 3 independent members, along with new resident and councillor members.

Chaired by the portfolio holder for housing, the board works at a strategic level, makes evidence-based recommendations on the direction that the council housing service should take and focuses on council owned properties.  Its members enjoy reading reports, dealing with numbers and asking questions.

The Housing Board makes recommendations to our senior officers about how to manage the Housing Revenue Account (this is the part of the council which manages council tenancies and leaseholders).  The Housing Board also makes recommendations about other areas, for example, strategic service changes, resourcing, encouraging resident participation, examining Business Plans and budgets, performance monitoring, policy and risk management.  It is made up of 3 residents, 3 councillors and 3 independent members.  To read about the Board and current members who will be retiring, please visit the Housing Board webpage.

There are normally 6 Board meetings per year which are held every other month.  These can be held virtually using Microsoft Teams and we provide all papers in advance.  Each Board member will also serve on at least 1 sub-committee (there are 3 to choose from: Development and Investment, Finance and Policy, and Performance and Risk).  Sub-committees normally meet 3 times per year and these can be held virtually too.

For independent members, we particularly encourage applications from those with a development, housing finance, legal or retro fitting energy efficiency measures background.  Former Board experience of a registered provided may be an advantage.

In exchange for your work, we pay regular Board members £3,175 per annum (we do not pay expenses on top of this; we pay the set amount monthly in arrears with tax and National Insurance deducted at source and we will review the amount before the start of the Board’s next term so it might change – please also consider how this might impact on other parts of your income, for example, if you are in receipt of any benefits).

Training will be provided in June and July 2021, with ongoing training available and ongoing support from the Governance and Scrutiny Officer.  For more information please visit jobs.wiltshire.gov.uk or contact the Governance and Scrutiny Officer on 07920 267073 or email tenantparticipation@wiltshire.gov.uk.

To apply, please visit Wiltshire Council’s Careers website and submit your application form and equality and diversity monitoring form.

Closing Date: Monday 31 May 2021.

Interviews: week commencing Monday 7 June 2021.  Our interview panel will be comprised of 4 people: with 1 being a resident, 1 being a Councillor and 2 being officers of Wiltshire Council.
