Housing Options Officer
In Housing Solutions, we deliver Housing Options services to people, in particular the vulnerable and homeless, whilst helping the Council meet its statutory duties.
We are looking for driven, enthusiastic people with a desire for self-development as well as improving the wellbeing of our customers.
You will be providing a comprehensive and specialist housing advice service to members of the public. This will involve making use of all available housing resources to advise customers of all their housing options as well as their legal rights. You will be assessing applications in accordance with the homelessness legislation and all the available resources to discharge the council’s statutory homelessness duties.
You will be required to develop personal housing plans to help keep applicants in their existing homes or help them find alternative accommodation options. The role involves conducting robust enquiries to establish the housing duties owed to customer. This will involve negotiating with landlords, helping applicants find alternative housing options, identifying support needs and putting practical measures in place to find solutions for customers who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.
You will need to be resilient and thrive in a high pressured, fast paced environment while experience of managing a busy and demanding caseload is essential. Experience of good planning and organisational skills and effectively able plan, prioritise and organise a case load is also required. You will need experience or knowledge of assessing applications under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and part 7 of the 1996 Housing Act.
You will be required to demonstrate experience/knowledge of assessing homeless applications in the interview.
You will be required to work across the Central Bedfordshire area and have access to a vehicle to occasionally drive to various locations. The role includes participating in an out of hours service, as required.
The role is working as part of a friendly team seeking to provide person-centred housing options to some of the most vulnerable people looking for homes.
