Head of External Affairs & Communications

As part of a continued focus on developing and shaping our customer services and supporting our People strategy, we are looking for a Head of External Affairs & Communications (one post) to join our Strategy & Communications Team.
This is a new role to the Strategy and Communications Team, where you will lead the delivery of Onwards External Affairs Strategy and Communications Plans to support our Corporate Plan. You will play a leading role in identifying and building an extensive network of external partnerships and relationships and become a proactive and visible ambassador for Onward and our customers, which engenders a culture of drive, challenge and creativity in communications.
You will proactively manage external media relations to ensure successful delivery of communications strategies, whilst building relationships with key media contacts to enhance and promote the business’ reputation and influence.
Leading a team of external affairs and communications professionals, you will provide proactive and strategic leadership, managing budgets, resources and priorities to deliver agreed strategies and plans and to meet agreed performance targets. You will mentor and develop team members to enable them to deliver comprehensive strategic communications support to colleagues within the business.
It is essential you have led a team to deliver strategic campaigns and engagement with high profile external audiences, including political and business leaders, and developing people by broadening their skills, and enabling their progression to deliver a consistent high level of performance. You should have a proven record of developing and delivering communications and PR strategies and working proactively to develop new services and products in order to secure new clients, customers or business capability. This proven experience will demonstrate your ability to translate strategic intent into operational plans, delivering high levels of service to customers or clients, whether inhouse or in an agency environment.
All posts are recruited to the recruitment salary and movement to the confirmed salary is based on successful completion of a 6 month probation.
