In Hackney we are: Open; Inclusive; Ambitious; Pioneering; Proactive and Proud… of Hackney, of each other, of what we do, and of the Council.

Hackney’s Resident Safety team was established in April 2018 as a result of the Grenfell Tower tragedy. The team's role is to ensure the Council has robust fire safety and health and safety procedures in place and to oversee the implementation of new Building Safety Legislation.

The Head of Resident Safety role offers a unique opportunity to make a huge impact in shaping the change within Building Safety throughout the full project lifecycle of property, lead on all aspects of safety across our assets, and act as the guardian of resident and building safety for the Council.

A keen influencer and facilitator, you will be visible and able to give clear direction, identify gaps in process, and create and roll out effective solutions. We want someone strategically minded, able to assess the wider picture, identify shifts in safety requirements and limit risk within both legacy and new development projects. You will be a confident relationship builder and communicator keen to collaborate effectively with other senior leaders and their teams across the whole business.

To be successful in this important role you will need a strong understanding of risk management within buildings, including fire safety, and experience at a senior level within a similar organisation. We would expect the Head of Resident Safety to be educated to be a Chartered Member of IOSH or equivalent body.
