About Us:

Putting homes back in the hands of those who need them

In Kensington and Chelsea, we put local people and local businesses at the heart of decision-making, working in partnership with them to provide quality services that are responsive, effective and efficient. Following the Grenfell tragedy, we have brought our social housing stock back under local authority control and want to make best use of it. This means addressing housing tenancy fraud, including subletting and illegal occupation of council properties. We want to ensure Kensington and Chelsea emerges stronger and better from its current challenges.

The Role:

Combining the highest standards of customer service with rigorous investigative skills, you’ll gather evidence and intelligence to reclaim misused properties. This will include surveillance and home visits, as well as working closely with the Police, the Home Office and social agencies. You’ll manage cases from initial complaint to representing the Housing Service in court and will also advise unauthorised occupants on alternative housing options. Overall, you’ll help to build trust with residents, re-establish resilient communities and make Kensington and Chelsea a safer, better place to live.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

Contract type: Temporary for 2 years
Vetting requirements: Enhanced DBS Check
Interview date: Week commencing 9th August 2021

About You:

You will need to have a relevant professional Investigations qualification and ideally a background in social housing (in an area such as housing advice, homelessness or housing management). Working to targets as part of a team, you’ll combine sensitivity and integrity with a passion for helping people to establish secure homes. Strong written and spoken communication skills are key. You’ll also need to be resilient and firm.

In return, you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme and generous annual leave plus bank holidays.

Please apply online explaining how you meet the requirements set out in the person specification and job description. CV’s will not be considered for this role.

Company

About Us

Kensington and Chelsea is one of London’s most vibrant and recognisable boroughs. It has many unique buildings, famous museums and beautiful parks. Although the borough is geographically one of the smallest in London, at just over 4.7 square miles, it is one of the most densely populated and diverse areas in Europe. It is home to the world-famous Notting Hill Carnival. Kensington and Chelsea Council (also known as RBKC) aims to provide high quality services to improve the lives of its residents and to make the borough a better place in which to live, work, and visit.

Housing and Grenfell

This department is responsible for housing, communities and improving the lives of local residents.  This includes landlord services and estate management, planning, refurbishment, and advice and support to help maintain healthy and safe homes.

A significant part of our work is focused on creating stronger communities, by working together with local residents on recovery following the Grenfell tragedy.

In response to London’s affordable homes crisis, we are committed to building more social housing to help people on lower incomes to live, work, and raise their families in the borough. Housing also covers landlord services and estate management, planning, refurbishment, and advice and support to help maintain healthy and safe homes.

Our housing team also work closely with affordable housing providers and other agencies to manage homelessness and give support to older residents to live independently.  Find out more about our vacancies here.
