We’re looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking housing professional to join our enthusiastic and high-performing Housing & Environmental Health Service. If you’re looking for the opportunity to make a difference to people’s lives, to prove your leadership ability, and to share fresh thinking in an organisation that’s ready to help you make an impact, this is the role for you.

You’ll be working in collaboration with the Two Senior Housing Options Officers to prevent and relieve homelessness and rough sleeping.  This post is responsible for the delivery of the Council’s Housing Register, Hampshire Home Choice and manages our private sector access initiatives for vulnerable people and people on low incomes.  The team delivers an accommodation and move on service, playing a key part in our homelessness prevention and resolution work.

We work with people using strengths-based techniques, recognising that housing crises are all too often the result of a culmination of underlying causes and that these often have little or nothing to do with ‘housing’. We work with people in a way that recognises everyone has talent and we actively embrace partnership working to facilitate increasingly holistic responses to people’s presenting issues.

This is a diverse and exciting job that will give you a real opportunity to innovate, to grow the role, and to personally develop.

With an excellent knowledge of housing legislation, and in particular the amended Parts 6 and 7 of the Housing Act 1996, you’ll need a track record of authentic leadership and successful delivery in complex and constantly changing policy environments. Complemented by passion, ambition, and creativity, your interpersonal and organisational skills will help us to continue innovating and developing our services. With a high standard of education, a firm commitment to put the customer at the heart of everything you do, and a corporate mindset, you’ll also be persuasive and able to build effective relationships at all levels, both within and outside the Council.

Test Valley Borough Council spans two market towns, beautiful chocolate box villages and miles of stunning countryside. As we’re located just off the A303, it’s an easy trip to surrounding towns and cities, and you can also get to London in just under an hour. We’re proud of our performance as a Council and, with a Corporate Plan focused on “Growing our Potential”, there has never been a better time to join us and contribute to our success.

We have excellent employee satisfaction rates and other benefits of working here include a generous holiday allowance, on-site employee restaurant, discounted leisure facilities, flexi-time, free parking and a defined benefits pension scheme.

For an informal discussion about this opportunity, please contact Phil Turner, Head of Housing & Environmental Health on 01264 368544 or pturner@testvalley.gov.uk or Samantha Hall on 01264 368610 or shall@testvalley.gov.uk.

Shortlisting will be based on the demonstration of applicants meeting the person specification.

Closing date for receipt of applications: midday, Friday 23 July 2021

Interview dates: Anticipated interviews dates are the week commencing 9 August 2021.

Interviews will be in person at our offices in Andover.
