About Us:

Shape and give value to projects that will impact residents.

In Kensington and Chelsea, we put local people at the heart of decision-making, working in partnership with them to provide quality services that are responsive, effective and efficient. Working together and in partnership with everyone that has an impact on the lives of our residents, we strive to learn from each other, and continually adapt.

We’re a local authority with a private sector mentality, and our Quantity Surveyor team add rigour to the process of procuring contractors and consultants to work for the residents and leaseholders of Kensington and Chelsea.

The Role:

Joining us as a Quantity Surveyor, you’ll manage the financial issues of the procurement and delivery of our Capital Housing investment programme. Detailed value-for-money assessments are a key part of this role so you’ll give professional advice on procurement routes to achieve best value.

Collecting, collating and analysing all cost information you’ll shape the information into meaningful and robust benchmark costs. Working as a team you can be sure that you’ll constantly be motivated by the people around you, working together to deliver best quality and value.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information

About You:

We have a private sector mind-set and drive, which means you don’t have to have a public sector background as we welcome applicants from the private sector too. Your ability to manage the commercial and cost aspects of investment and planned works will be vital. You’ll also need to be able to prepare cost estimates as well as tender submissions provided by the Service Providers, sub-contractors and suppliers. You’ll need to be good with people too, knowing how to get the best out of them as you manage junior members of the commercial team. On top of this a thorough understanding of construction contracts is vital as well as the implications of health and safety regulations.

We’re changing our delivery model, trusting and empowering our people to work from home, however, it’s still important that you are able to commute to the office or to our sites at times.

In return, you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme and generous annual leave plus bank holidays.

Please apply online explaining how you meet the requirements set out in the person specification and job description. CV’s will not be considered for this role.

Company

About Us

Kensington and Chelsea is one of London’s most vibrant and recognisable boroughs. It has many unique buildings, famous museums and beautiful parks. Although the borough is geographically one of the smallest in London, at just over 4.7 square miles, it is one of the most densely populated and diverse areas in Europe. It is home to the world-famous Notting Hill Carnival. Kensington and Chelsea Council (also known as RBKC) aims to provide high quality services to improve the lives of its residents and to make the borough a better place in which to live, work, and visit.

Housing and Grenfell

This department is responsible for housing, communities and improving the lives of local residents.  This includes landlord services and estate management, planning, refurbishment, and advice and support to help maintain healthy and safe homes.

A significant part of our work is focused on creating stronger communities, by working together with local residents on recovery following the Grenfell tragedy.

In response to London’s affordable homes crisis, we are committed to building more social housing to help people on lower incomes to live, work, and raise their families in the borough. Housing also covers landlord services and estate management, planning, refurbishment, and advice and support to help maintain healthy and safe homes.

Our housing team also work closely with affordable housing providers and other agencies to manage homelessness and give support to older residents to live independently.  Find out more about our vacancies here.
